Bi-Monthly Farmer’s Market
ASU has a Farmer’s Market on Tuesdays.
I’m in class on Tuesdays.
But when I get out?
Be still my heart.
I leave my bike where it is and hightail it to the produce stand.
If I had more of a disposable income, I’d spend all of my money on the little vendors. Raw crackers? Absolutely! Fair trade chocolate? Sure! Cinnamon rolls? I’d love some!
For now, though, I stick to produce and honey, when I run out. And maybe when I’m feeling particularly rich, a loaf of 9 grain bread.

And then I bike home as fast as I can and fill my refrigerator with my delicious goodies.
But not too fast. I wouldn’t want to lose an an apple out of my basket.
(I had trouble fitting all of my produce into one side of my saddle basket today.)

I may have gone a little wild. But the Farmer’s Market only happens every other Tuesday (and the other market I like to go to isn’t open yet, and that’s going to be far away and I’ve become rather accustomed to riding my bike rather than driving, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to talk myself commandeering the car to get there. It’s just so… big.) so I need to stock up on all my fruits and veggies while I can.

Of course I leave the potatoes and tomatoes out. Did you know that refrigerators ruin the taste of tomatoes? Also, don’t put your onions in the fridge until you’ve cut them — the cold does something to the sugars, so it’s better to leave them out until they have to go in the fridge.
What I got:
6 Tomatoes
4 Potatoes
5 Red Bell Peppers
3 Green Bell Peppers
1 Seriously Hot Pepper (That’s the scientific name.)
6 Gala Apples
4 Granny Smith Apples
2 Heads of Broccoli
1 Zucchini
1 Yellow Squash
1 Nectarine
1 Big Carrot
Total? $23
I was pretty impressed with myself.
For dinner I made fajitas. I tried to make some cilantro-lime rice but it didn’t turn out super awesome. Next time will be better.
