Occupy Phoenix
On Saturday I went to Occupy Phoenix.

There was a pretty amazing crowd. Lots of signs. Lots of people handing out water (people would walk through the crowds with a whole bunch of bottled water and hand it out to whoever wanted some), food (donated by Whole Foods and Sprouts), music, conversations.

There was even a man with a bunch of bananas with things written on them — like “End the Bush tax cuts” and “The Fairness Doctrine”. He let people eat them for free.

It was 100F out and I got tired really fast. I stayed for about two hours and then went home. It was a really good experience.
One thing I really appreciated was how vastly different this collection of people were, and yet how much they came together.
There have been a lot of criticisms of this movement. That’s fine. I think it’s a worthwhile cause. I think the people saying, “Protesting doesn’t do anything” are the same as the people protesting, just with a little less hope and a little less determination. To the people who criticize the movement, saying it’s unorganized… it’s easy to say those things on the sidelines.
My thoughts are with those Occupying Everywhere.
