Buy a soccer ball- not free, but cheap and awesome fun, and take it to the park with a friend or two! It’s amazing how fun this is.

Taking the dog for a walk or taking him to the park are some of my favorites!

I do almost all of these things! I also crochet all the yarn I have already. Not quite free, if I have to buy more, but it is the perfect accompaniment for streaming some TV or watching a movie.

Many museums have free days once a month or so. Browsing art gallerys is also a free, fun way to see art.
I’m sure this changes from place to place, but delightsandshadows reminded me that my library hands out what are called “culture passes” — it’s a pass for two people to go to libraries/museums/art exhibits for free! You check it out just like you would a book and then return it after you go.
Also free:
Concerts at malls. There’s a mall here that has an acoustic AND electric band play at different ends of the mall on Friday and Saturday nights. Great way to spend the evening. Bring your own cup of hot tea to stay warm.
“Board” games. If you already have your favorites (mine: Yahtzee, Password, deck of cards, checkers, chess), play them. Also, Charades or Pictionary. These might seem like old lady things to do, but they’re a great way to spend time with your friends (and raid your pantry to make cookies — they’ll help eat them, I promise!)
